Sponsored Training for K9s and Rangers in Odzala-Kokoua National Park, Congo

We are excited to share that we provided sponsored expert advanced training for the rangers and K9s of African Park’s, Odzala-Kokoua National Park, Congo.

This beautiful habit is home to some of the most famous rare and endangered species such as gorillas, bongo antelope, chimpanzees, three pangolin species, forest elephants, and red river hogs.

Wesley Visscher, of @scentimprintconservationdogs , was deployed as our Field Instructor for this special collaboration with the National Park and African Parks ngo. During this field deployment, Wesley assessed the operating levels of the K9s and the handlers, then worked to elevate all their skillsets collectively as a unit.

The primary sponsored training program included refining the detection of hidden ammunition, pangolin scales, buried ivory, gun oil, and hidden leopard skins. As the program continued, the rangers and K9s worked on man tracking and other detection / area searches.

The sponsored training for the rangers and K9s of African Park’s Odzala-KoKoua National Park wrapped up with GCF Field K9 Instructor Wesley Visscher, of Scent Imprint Conservation Dogs, standardizing their approach to training, scent detection, and tracking.

K9s and anti poaching rangers play an extremely important role in wildlife protection efforts. They are the only people, and animals, on the ground between the wildlife and poaching activities. K9s help ranger units be more efficient and effective in their proactive and reactive efforts when dealing with any illegal activities harming the habitat or wildlife. We are proud to host a large international K9 conservation effort that supports the protection efforts of some of the worlds most endangered species. This is due to the support we receive from our donors! Thank you!
