June 21st marks World Giraffe Day, a day to honor the world’s tallest land animal and reflect on the state of giraffe conservation. For years, giraffe have been experiencing a silent extinction—declining across many parts of Africa due to habitat loss, poaching, human-wildlife conflict, and civil unrest. But this year, thanks to the continued efforts of conservationists, rangers, researchers, and local communities, we have some hopeful news to share.
