Snares are silent killers of wildlife around the world. It takes constant effort and routine sweeps to remove and reduce the snares impacting wildlife. Global Conservation Force’s Wildlife Protection & Conservation Bootcamp is designed to develop competent, adaptable, and highly capable wildlife protection professionals prepared to operate across diverse global environments. This physically demanding and mentally challenging field program is tailored to address the real-world needs of wildlife protection, conservation security, and anti-poaching operations across multiple continents and ecosystems.This course differs significantly from Global Conservation Force’s Introduction to Anti-Poaching Training Course in South Africa, which focuses heavily on the South African operational environment and primarily supports locally selected recruits from rural communities.

This course is not intended for ranger or law enforcement work within the United States. It is specifically designed to prepare individuals for participation in Global Conservation Force project countries, where training supports wildlife protection and conservation efforts through anti-poaching operations, ranger support and training programs, applied conservation initiatives, and wildlife protection missions in regions where GCF actively operates.

 

The Wildlife Protection & Conservation Bootcamp is designed as a multi-environment readiness program, preparing students for conservation security work across regions including Central America, Asia, and remote regions throughout Africa. Trainees will undergo rigorous preparation similar to that found in specialized military, ranger, or law enforcement field training environments. Training is conducted continuously in demanding outdoor environments where recruits must function with limited sleep, restricted resources, and challenging terrain.

The Wildlife Protection & Conservation Bootcamp is designed to function as part of a progressive conservation training pathway and pairs directly with Global Conservation Force’s Introduction to Anti-Poaching Training Course. Individuals wishing to volunteer or operate within Global Conservation Force South Africa project regions will be required to complete additional region-specific training.This includes completing either:

  • A Field Guides Association of Southern Africa (FGASA) recognized course, or
  • The Global Conservation Force Introduction to Dangerous Game, African Wildlife, and Wildlife Tracking Course, taught under FGASA-certified instructors

This additional requirement includes a minimum of 10 days spent on foot, living and operating within dangerous game environments.Participants who complete either the Wildlife Protection & Conservation Bootcamp or the Introduction to Anti-Poaching Course will receive a discounted enrollment rate for the Introduction to Dangerous Game, African Wildlife, and Wildlife Tracking Course.

To maintain uniformity and safety standards, all recruits will follow standardized equipment guidelines.Approved personal items include:

Fundamentals of Anti-Poaching Course | USA

Global Conservation Force’s Fundamentals of Anti-Poaching Training Course is a program designed for those interested in remote wilderness camping and learning the basics of wildlife survival, and wildlife protection in remote or high-conflict rural anti-poaching environments.

 

This physically and mentally engaging three-day course provides hands-on experience in man tracking, wildlife tracking, snare detection, fire-making, orienteering with map, compass, and GPS, cooking by fire, rural wilderness camping, emergency first aid and evacuation, and camping in areas with potentially dangerous wildlife. Participants will gain a practical taste of the skills required to operate in remote wilderness or in active wildlife protection and anti-poaching operations. A course instructor will be present for the full duration of the course to provide guidance, mentorship, and support throughout all activities.

The Zululand Rhino Orphanage Volunteer Program offers a unique opportunity to be directly involved in active conservation work in South Africa. This is not a leisure or tourist experience.
