Testimonials

"I visited Kariega with Global Conservation Force (GCF) during their ranger training in May of 2024 and the experience was nothing short of immersive and hands on. I am a huge advocate for community involvement and conservation work, both factors which were very present during my visit. The reserve is vast, beautiful and filled with wildlife; we had multiple opportunities to engage with the team and recruits, shadowing operations and exercises out in the bush as well as team building. Mike, Natasha, and the rest of the GCF team were incredibly accommodating and made me feel involved throughout my entire stay. A huge thank you to the team, already looking forward to my next visit!"

"When I was off the ship for a couple of weeks, I went to Africa on a safari. Mike Veale arranged the trip through his non profit organization Global Conservation Force, an organization that equips and trains anti poaching rangers. I was truly blown away by the place we went to, Leeuwenbosch Country House - Amakhala Game Reserve. The accommodations were first class and the animal encounters unbelievable. Thanks to our guide Aboud, we saw Lions, Rhinos, Cheetahs, Elephants, Zebras, Caped Buffalo, Antelope, Wildebeast, Elands, Gazelles etc. etc. up close and personal. The best part of all was how we were treated like family. William, the owner, along with the staff, couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating! On our last day we even had the chance to go along on a Rhino relocation! Truly an unforgettable experience! If you find yourself looking for a place to go to for a safari, I couldn't recommend them any higher! They truly care about the animals as well as their guests! By going with Global Conservation Force and Leeuwenbosch Country House, you'll not only have an awesome time, but you'll support the conservation effort as well. As someone who is heavily involved in the conservation of sharks, I appreciate what both these outfits do for conservation."

"I was able to travel to South Africa with GCF in Feburary for an eco tourism experience. It's been my lifelong dream to visit and I can honestly say the bar has been set high! Everyday was planned out and filled with activities. When plans changed, they changed for the better! We got to be a part of 3 elephant collaring experience! Numerous game drives with very experienced and enthusiastic guides. So many highlights of my life happened that week! All the partners we met were so friendly and informative. South Africa as a whole made me feel very welcomed. It was extremely safe and we were all cared for throughout our trip. This exceeded my expectation and I'm eagerly waiting to return."

"This was the trip of a lifetime. There were so many unique experiences from attending and participating in veterinarian procedures to one on one time with Dr. Fowlds and the game drives with very well informed guides who truly loved their work. Hearing about the various very ambitious plans for the future conservation efforts to improve the lives of the wildlife and surrounding communities was inspiring and educational. And then there were the wildlife encounters and viewing that was so amazing, being a photographer, me and I’m sure the wildlife, appreciated the guides and rangers coordinating the vehicles arrivals for viewing so that it wasn’t an overwhelming crowded and stressful experience which resulted in relaxed and more natural conditions all around. Seeing Thandi in person with her crash surrounding her was a highlight of the trip I will never forget. Definitely plan to visit again."

"I recently had the pleasure of joining Global Conservation Force's Eco Tour, and it was an unforgettable experience. From start to finish, the tour showcased their deep commitment to environmental sustainability and conservation. The itinerary was meticulously planned, offering a perfect balance of breathtaking natural landscapes, intimate wildlife encounters, and connection with community. Our guides were exceptionally knowledgeable, providing insightful commentary and engaging us in meaningful discussions about conservation efforts. Their passion for protecting the environment was truly inspiring. The eco-friendly practices employed throughout the tour, from low-impact transportation to sustainable lodging, were impressive and demonstrated their genuine dedication to reducing our footprint. Additionally, the tour offered ample opportunities for hands-on involvement in conservation projects, allowing us to make a tangible impact. The group's small size ensured personalized attention and fostered a sense of community among participants. Overall, Global Conservation Force's Eco Tour not only enriched my understanding of global conservation issues but also left me feeling empowered to contribute to a more sustainable future. This trip truly exceeded all of my expectations with highlights that include: making lifelong friends out of strangers, getting the opportunity to administer antibiotics to a rhinoceros, playing soccer with children of the Kariega foundation as well as with the rangers in training (I had asked if it were at all possible to play soccer while on the trip and the guides made it happen), and being surrounded by a herd of elephants at the golden hour of our first night. Our hosts also found out that my birthday was during my ecotour and they planned a surprise birthday dinner. I am constantly telling my family and friends that there aren’t words to describe how incredible my experience was, but here I have tried. Joining GCF on an eco-tour is highly recommended for anyone passionate about making a difference while exploring the natural world!"

In May 2024 I joined the SOSA conservation group on an eco-safari to Kariega Game Reserve in South Africa and the experience was simply unforgettable! Our group stayed at the Homestead lodge exclusively which had its own pool and stunning vistas. We had our own chefs, who prepared delicious nutritious food and our own guide. Encountering all the wildlife in their natural habitat was such an honor, especially when they came really close to the vehicle. Making eye contact with these majestic animals and sharing this unspoken sense of awe and trust between us is something that can only be experienced. There are almost no words! But the absolute BEST part of the experience was that this safari was hosted by and in support of Global Conservation Force, an incredible organization dedicated to wildlife conservation projects, local community support and anti-poaching patrols. We visited during their anti-poaching ranger training camp and were privileged to meet the recruits and observe some of the course, which is designed to challenge these future heroes and prepare them for life in the field. GCF curated such a memorable itinerary for us that included community involvement where we were able to play sports and share donations with kids at a local school, hands-on participation in a community vet day where locals brought their dogs for care, and the most unforgettable day: wildlife procedures on the reserve. We ended the journey with lifelong friends and memories. Thank you to Mike, Natasha, Brierley and all the GCF folks for dedicating your lives to this cause and the sacrifices you make to do so. Thank you to Blake, Cody and the SOSA for uplifting organizations like this, and creating this opportunity for us. And thank you all for showing me that a handful of people CAN make a difference, and it's HUGE!
