Last week, Mike Veale, founder of Global Conservation Force and renowned wildlife conservationist, participated as an invited speaker, judge, and panelist at the Primer Congresso Internacional de Cuidadores in Cali, Colombia. Hosted by the Cali Zoo in partnership with the International Outreach Committee of AAZK, this prestigious event brought together over 100 participants from 13 countries, all dedicated to advancing in-situ and ex-situ conservation efforts.
Mike’s contributions to the conference were nothing short of impactful. Drawing from his extensive career in wildlife care—where he has worked hands-on with critically endangered species such as northern white rhinos, black rhinos, and many others—Mike shared invaluable insights into effective conservation strategies. He also highlighted his current work in wildlife protection, counter-wildlife trafficking, and conservation leadership, aiming to empower both current professionals and the next generation of conservationists.
His presentations focused on the importance of collaboration, innovative conservation techniques, and the critical role that caretakers, rangers, and conservationists play in preserving wildlife and wild spaces.
Mike expressed his deep gratitude to Yvette Kemp and the International Outreach Committee of AAZK for their tireless efforts in organizing such a professional and impactful program. He also commended the Cali Zoo staff for their exceptional hospitality and dedication to creating a memorable and transformative experience for all attendees.
The conference served as a powerful platform for professionals across the globe to exchange ideas and solutions to pressing conservation challenges. Through his role as a speaker and mentor, Mike continues to inspire others to take bold and meaningful action in protecting wildlife and their habitats.
