Pangolin Protection in Action: Tracking Tags Sponsored for Zululand Conservation Trust

We’re proud to share a powerful step forward in pangolin conservation: Global Conservation Force has sponsored four tracking tags for our partners at Zululand Conservation Trust to support their critical work monitoring and protecting pangolins in the wild.

Pangolins are the most heavily trafficked mammals in the world, and in South Africa, where the Temminck’s ground pangolin is native, conservation teams face constant pressure to intervene in cases of wildlife trafficking. Many rescued pangolins require intensive rehabilitation before they can be reintroduced to the wild. But the journey doesn’t stop there.

That’s where tracking tags come in. These specialized devices are a vital part of post-rescue and post-release monitoring—allowing conservation teams to follow the animal’s movements, ensure its safety, and collect crucial behavioral and ecological data. With this information, teams can refine release protocols, detect threats early, and build long-term protection plans for a species teetering on the brink.

This sponsorship was made possible through our ongoing partnership with @the.sosa and the support of our 2025 GCF x SOSA ecotour, led by GCF Ambassador @BlakeMoynes. Every participant on this trip helped fund meaningful, real-time conservation impact—and these tags are just one example of the difference we can make together.

Every tag represents a step forward in the fight to save pangolins, and we’re honored to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with conservation partners who work tirelessly to ensure these incredible animals have a future.
