In a powerful display of collaboration and frontline conservation, Global Conservation Force recently joined our long-standing partners at TacTrack Anti-Poaching Unit for a field patrol that resulted in the removal of 222 snares—each one a potential death trap for wildlife.
The operation was organized and led by TacTrack, with GCF joining in support to lend additional manpower, gear, and field expertise. Also joining the team was GCF Ambassador and Ranger Blake Moynes, who participated in every step of the patrol, from clearing snares to tracking poachers through the bush.
“When you see 222 snares pulled in one day, it changes your perspective. These traps are cruel, silent killers—and every one of them removed is a life potentially saved. I’m grateful to have joined this incredible team on such an impactful day.”
— Blake Moynes, GCF Ambassador & Ranger
Snares are among the most common and devastating tools used in bushmeat poaching. They’re often fashioned from discarded wire, placed strategically along game trails or near watering holes. The indiscriminate nature of snares means they can trap any species—ranging from small antelope to predators, and even endangered animals like pangolins or rhinos.
What made this patrol especially significant was that it didn’t end with snare removal. The team successfully picked up and followed fresh poacher sign, tracking the individuals who had set many of the snares. This level of tracking not only removes the threat but also puts real pressure on poaching networks.
This operation is a shining example of what’s possible when we work in true partnership. TacTrack’s intimate knowledge of the terrain, expertly trained rangers, and strategic leadership made this patrol a success. Global Conservation Force is proud to support their work by providing training, equipment, funding, and field support wherever needed.
At GCF, we believe the best way to protect wildlife is to empower the people who stand between poachers and animals—the rangers. This patrol stands as a reminder of the brutal challenges they face and the tangible results that come from their dedication.
