When Trading Cards Help Protect Real Wildlife. For millions of people around the world, Pokémon was their first introduction to the natural world. Long before many of us learned about rhinos, pangolins, elephants, wolves, turtles, or birds of prey, we were collecting cards featuring creatures inspired by them. We learned about habitats, adaptations, strengths, weaknesses, evolution, and the importance of protecting unique species. For many of today's wildlife professionals, conservationists, veterinarians, and biologists, a fascination with animals began through games, books, movies, and trading cards.
