Detection dogs are becoming one of the most powerful tools in the global fight against wildlife crime—and they are quite literally on the frontlines.
In this eye-opening and experience-driven talk, conservationist and anti-poaching expert Mike Veale explores the critical role detection and protection K9s play in safeguarding endangered species and disrupting wildlife trafficking networks. Drawing from real-world field operations across Africa and beyond, Mike shares how highly trained K9 teams are deployed to detect ivory, rhino horn, illegal firearms, snares, and other wildlife-crime indicators in complex, high-risk environments.
This hands-on course provides participants with in-depth training on wildlife game capture, chemical immobilization, and safe relocation techniques. Designed for conservation professionals, veterinarians, wildlife rangers, and those passionate about wildlife management, this course ensures students gain real-world experience in handling Africa’s iconic wildlife species. Participants will learn about best practices, ethical considerations, public education strategies, and the integration of anti-poaching efforts in wildlife operations.

This immersive 7 - 10 day professional development program in Bangladesh places participants directly into active endangered species conservation, combining wildlife rehabilitation, wildlife monitoring, and applied conservation K9 fieldwork.
